Problem

What is VoIP Dialing and how do I use the intercompany Voice Over Internet Protocol phone dialing?

Explanantion and instructions

All sites that have the VoIP infrastructure may now use the company’s intranet to make phone calls

between stores and offices. Here are some of the benefits to using the VoIP system:

  • Costs less. It will reduce the monthly phone bill considerably.
  • Free up the current phone lines making them more available to our customers.
  • Saves time and frustration by not having to wait for the auto attendant.

What is VoIP?

VoIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol. It is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a

broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line.

How to Make a VoIP Call

All VoIP calls have to originate from an IP phone that is connected to our intranet. To make a call to another

store, department, or office that is on the same intranet, it is simply a matter of dialing the right sequence of six

numbers. However, you need to know ahead of time the store or office number and the specific department

number or extension you are calling.

For example, a call to the Produce department at Store #45 would look like this: 204520.

The dialing sequence breaks down as follows:

  • 2............All VoIP calls will begin with the number 2.
  • 045........The 3-digit store number. Has to be 3 digits. In this case, a 0 was added to the 45.
  • 20..........This is the specific department number (see the table below for more extensions).

Common Extensions Including Pharmacy

01 Store Manager             25 Bakery / Deli                 80 Main Store Auto Attendant

02 Grocery Manager         30 Receiving                     85 Pharmacy Auto Attendant

03 Front End                     35 POS Scan                    90 Main Line 1

15 Meat / Seafood            49 Pharmacy (Secondary) 92 Main Line 3

  • Unanswered calls to the Pharmacy at extension 50 will roll to extension 49, and then finally to the Pharmacy voicemail.
  • Unanswered calls to extensions 01 through 40 will roll to extension 90, and then to 91, then to 92 and then finally to 80, the main store auto attendant. Each time the call rolls, it will ring at all phones.
  • VoIP Stores have access to the company directory and caller ID through their phones.
  • VoIp Stores can call an employee at corporate by using their four digit extension.
  • Stores with one-off extensions (e.g. Florist) are not listed above.
